What are STAs?
STA tags are special tags in Aleph that are not part of the Marc standard. 2 values in these tags have meaning to Aleph and the Mango extract: DELETED and SUPPRESSED. In addition there is a list of supported STA values that were agreed upon by all SULs (via TSPC). This is a free-text field and there can be typos or mistakes.
What happens during the merge based on STA value
- If there is an STA=DELETED tag the records are skipped and not included in the merged database.
- Records with STA=SUPPRESSED have the field dropped from the bib record and the record is included in the merge database
- All other records are selected, including those with the following statuses: STA=WITHDRAWN, STA=ACQ-CREATED, and STA=CIRC-CREATED." In the Tag Treatment Document STA is has treatment 2, so all are kept with the Marc Org code in the $5.
